Killhope won’t kill your hope of fun

Are you digging around for something for the family to do that's fun as well as educational? Well, why not take a pit stop in the mines of Killhope?

Killhope bills itself as "the North of England lead mining museum" and is a chance for families to find out first-hand what is was like to be a Victorian lead mining family.

Park Level mine is the central attraction at this museum and it really is quite the adventure. You and the kids will get kitted out with hard hats, lamps and wellies before you take a guided tour of the original tunnel where real-life Victorians toiled all those years ago.

There's interactive excitement on the ground as well as under it as you all get the chance to dress up in Victorian-style clothes. The kids can even work as a washer boy, which is sure to amuse the parents. Life was so hard back then, wasn't it! Imagine trying to get the kids to do the washing now.

Killhope also plays home to the North's largest working water wheel and a number of lovely woodland walks where you can simply admire the scenery and recover from the stress of all that mining and washing!
