I have recently completed my BEng in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. With 7 years of tutoring experience, I have also prepared students for university interviews.
I grew up in Northern Ireland, moved to Oxford for University and now live in London, working for a large property developer. Over the years I have travelled and worked on nature reserves and cattle farms in the Australian outback, tracked elephants in the wilderness of Kenya and worked on historic construction and restoration projects around Ireland. With the help of some fantastic teaching I gained top marks in my A-levels (Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry) and I went on to study Engineering Science at the University of Oxford.
I firmly believe the enjoyment and success of academics sits directly with the understanding of real world problems and being enthused by where the study of subject can lead you.
Tutoring Experience:
• A-level and GCSE Tutor, Belfast, Oxford, London August 2013 - Taught individual lessons, produced revision and exam preparation material, exam skills
• Jesus College Ambassador and Interview Assistant December 2015 - June 2019 - Leading tours, school visits and Q&A sessions for prospective students internationally
◦ Ambassador: completing outreach talks for Jesus College and the Engineering Department
◦ Interview Assistant: managing logistics and running the student desk for welcoming interviewees
• Oxbridge Entrance Advisor December 2016- Assisting students to develop the tools for entrance to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities
My main aim in tutoring is to give the extra attention and support which is often not available in school and build a student's confidence. The areas that I like to work on with every student are making sure they get a good grasp of the basic skills and understanding so that they can use them to gain a better overall grasp of the topic. This makes them more comfortable applying their skills to more challenging material which in turn, should boost grades. Where applicable, I also aim to help students with their exam technique.
I am always happy to help students regarding study skills, A-level choices or university applications, especially in the STEM subjects. Looking beyond the classroom and laying down plans for what you wish to achieve is key. Having a goal or dream to achieve often provides the drive and perspective required to succeed in your current studies.
