I am a first year PhD student specialising in microbiology and infection research at the University of Warwick. I completed a Biomedical Sciences degree and Clinical Immunology masters at the University of Manchester. I am currently living in Birmingham where I went to school and sixth form. I have taken part in Medical placements at the University of Oxford as well as courses regarding Cancer Science. Apart from science and research, I am also interested in Art and Design and have designed posters for the West Midlands Police as well as created logos for local primary schools. I also volunteer in an Oxfam Bookshop where I design the shop displays and manage the till, which helps me build on time management and communication.
I have served in the role of Subject Champion at sixth form for the subjects I studies at A-Level (Biology, Chemistry and Maths). This role required me to help other GCSE and A-Level students with tasks like homework and revision. I was also expected to answer any questions the students had about the topics they learned in lessons by using diagrams, examples and practical demonstrations. I am also currently tutoring GCSE and A-level students at home in the Science and Maths subjects in order to prepare them for their exams, as I have recently undertaken them myself.
The reason why I decided to tutor was because I really enjoy explaining and demonstrating concepts and ideas to other people. This not only helps to consolidate my own learning but also enables them to have their questions answered as well as get rid of any confusion they may have. I have also achieved top grades in my A-Level subjects which means I have efficient revision and studying techniques that I am keen to pass on to other students. I feel like I will be able to prepare and equip students for their exams because I have recently gone through the whole process myself so will be able to advise them on the techniques they need to undertake.
