I am an experienced science communication professional, and I'm looking to start private tutoring having had some teaching experience during my PhD. Since completing my doctorate in 2018 I've been working in the charity sector, translating complex scientific research into accessible, straightforward language. I also have 4 younger siblings and have always enjoyed helping them with their homework/studies at their own pace.
During my PhD I tutored Undergraduate and Foundation Year bioscience students in cell biology modules, laboratory practical demonstrations, and marked lab reports and essays.
Informal experience in my teens and early twenties helping my siblings and neighbour's children with their schoolwork, mostly Maths and English
Through my experiences of academic research and over 5 years experience explaining scientific research for a living, I feel I can provide the depth, nuance, and quality of explanation required for a truly beneficial and enjoyable understanding of biology. This could be especially helpful for anyone looking to study a biological science beyond secondary school.
My strengths include combining empathy and patience with high levels of technical expertise and I would be delighted to help anyone finding biology difficult or who is considering a scientific career.
