Hello, my name is Aimie and I live in Kilmarnock. I enjoy reading and I love spending time with my Maltese puppy Bruno. My love of history stems from listening to old stories and history related films. This interest increased when I went to secondary school and I had two periods of history each week learning about Ancient Egypt. I was so inspired by my history teacher and how engaged he kept the full class. Each year I enjoyed history more as we learned about different topics with my favourite being the rise of the Nazis. I know early on that I wanted to be a history teacher in the hope that I could teach to inspire the way my history teacher did.
I have been teaching since 2016 and I have been in a permanent post as a history teacher in South Ayrshire Council since 2017. Our History results are excellent and they are above the local authority and national average.
Since beginning my teaching career I have been teaching National 5 and Higher History. I have teaching experience in a wide range of topics for example:
National 5: Era of the Great War, Migration & Empire, Changing Britain, the Making of Modern Britain, Atlantic Slave Trade, Rise of Hitler & the Nazis & Appeasement and road to war.
Higher History: (Paper 2) Scottish Wars of Independence, Era of the Great War
(Paper 1) Britain and Germany
I’m also an sqa marker for the National 5 exam and Assignment. Please note that due to sqa rules & guidelines I would be unable to assist you with the Assignment.
Please note I’m only comfortable tutoring people who are in Scottish education. I have limited knowledge of the English system for example and would not feel fully confident in assisting with that.
My approach varies in order to suit the needs of the student. On our first meeting I will set out the key areas that you need help with and then create a plan in order to meet these needs. Whether you need me to go over key concepts or strip back exam style questions.
I do believe that exam skills should be a key focus- being an sqa marker I know that you could have all of the history knowledge but if you can’t structure exam questions properly then you lose marks.
