I am about to begin training to be a Modern Studies Teacher at the University of Strathclyde. Modern Studies sits within the Social Subjects, combining Sociology, Politics and Economics to understand social and political issues in the Scottish and international context. I also hold a First Class Honours Degree in Sociology and Politics from the University of Glasgow. I am passionate about widening participation and creating opportunities for young people to succeed! Tutoring not only improves academic success and abilities but also builds vital study skills and confidence for the future.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience working with young people from P3-S6 in Scotland. I have also lived abroad, working as an Au Pair, where I cared for and taught English to two children aged 9 and 11.

I currently work as an Education Worker for an educational charity. This role involves teaching literacy and numeracy to P3-P7 through a curriculum based on degree subjects. I also deliver skills and careers workshops to P3-S6 while organising University Student Mentoring for secondary-aged pupils. This has given me practical teaching experience while allowing me to encourage young people to consider future options from an early age.

I am also part of the PVG scheme for working with children.

Tutoring Approach

I believe building a solid relationship with students is key to creating a trusting environment where students are comfortable highlighting challenging areas, which we can then build on. From that, I encourage a skills based approach addressing key knowledge, and how to analyse and evaluate this. After teaching key skills, there will be opportunity to practice this through past papers and exam style answers which I am happy to provide consistent feedback on.
