I am a fully qualified, experienced teacher of sociology, psychology and criminology at a secondary school, achieving excellent results every year. I am also an AQA examiner for Sociology. I thoroughly enjoy teaching these subjects to A Level and I have a passion and enthusiasm for them, which I am told (by my students) comes across in my lessons. I have an upbeat and enthusiastic approach to learning, and I firmly believe any student can achieve their potential if they receive support and encouragement. I am friendly, approachable, supportive and committed to helping young people achieve their very best!
I have been teaching full time at secondary schools for 19 years and have run large and successful Social Sciences/Humanities departments for 18 of these. These subjects are incredibly popular and the results of my students have always been very good. I teach sociology at both GCSE and A Level, and Psychology and Criminology at A Level. I am an experienced tutor and have tutored a number of students. My experience is with the AQA specifications for both subjects. Topics I specialise in are:
Sociology: Families & Households, Education and Research Methods, Beliefs in society and Crime & Deviance, Theory and methods.
Psychology: Psychopathology, Social influence, Developmental (attachments), Research methods, Biopsychology, Issues, Debates and Approaches, Aggression, Schizophrenia and Relationships
I am also an experienced examiner for AQA A Level Sociology.
My approach to tutoring will entirely depend on the needs of the student and the purpose of the tuition. From experience, often the purpose of tuition is help achieve a good exam result, and therefore my starting point would be to ascertain whether the focus needs to be on increasing subject knowledge, developing exam skills, or simply raising overall confidence in the subject. I will tailor my approach to the needs of the student.
