Hi my name is Alexander and I am a postgraduate research student studying DPhil Oncology. I have recently graduated from Imperial College London with an MRes Cancer Biology degree (merit) and in July 2023 I graduated from King's College London with a first class honours degree in BSc Biochemistry. I am offering 1 to 1 tuition in Biology, Chemistry and Maths at GCSE, A Level and Key Stage 3.
I have excellent knowledge of the subjects I tutor and first-rate knowledge of exam technique for success at GCSE and A Level. I have a genuine love of learning and for passing on my passion and interest to others- my eventual goal is to become a secondary school teacher after completing a PhD/DPhil in an area of oncological research.
I have first hand experience using many of the experimental techniques taught in A-level/GCSE Biology courses having recently worked on active research projects in three laboratories (The Oliferenko lab- Francis Crick institute, the Cox lab– Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics and the Kornmann lab- University of Oxford).
I have given one-to-one tutoring at GCSE, AS and A Level for pupils who are lacking confidence, needing reassurance or for those who are wishing to achieve higher grades.
My tutoring session will focus on both exam content as well as exam technique because I believe that both are essential to score well in exams.
I will usually split the lesson in to sections. In one we will run through a new area/topic and in the second we will focus on exam questions based on the content covered in the previous session. Students find that this technique is most effective as it prevents them from being overloaded with new concepts AND allows them to revisit previously covered concepts to facilitate their understanding of them (all whilst learning how to answer exam questions based on them).
I will sometimes give exam questions to the students for homework between sessions which I then run through with the student in the next session. This way I can maximise the time that I spend teaching the student in each session to improve their learning experience.
I am happy to discuss adaptive teaching methods to suit the student's needs.
