I hold a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and have Qualified Teacher Status.
I have an outstanding academic record having obtained First Class Honours as an undergraduate, qualifying as a barrister and obtaining a Distinction in International Law in my Masters degree.
I started my legal training as a mature student after many years in finance and have good, practical business experience. Going back to academia after many years I understand how daunting study can be. I have taught and continue to teach in schools and am familiar with the problems and challenges faced by students of all abilities.
I am able to tutor in most humanities subjects but in particular, English, Law and History. I have successfully tutored in the past both mature students and those for whom English is not their first language.
I am a qualified English teacher with QTS and a PGCE in English. I have taught and continue to teach in secondary schools.
In my previous career I was frequently responsible for the training and development of new school leavers.
I have tutored and supported legal students up to and including LPC, BPTC and PhD levels.
I have been tutoring now for over ten years. All my students have improved their grades and often achieve the highest grades for their work. I have worked with students of all ages in preparation for one-off challenges or tasks or, more usually, established long-term working relationships with my students to the completion of their courses or exams.
I have tutored students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
I love the subjects I teach and love passing on the knowledge that opens up the world of those subjects for my students.
For me the point of private tuition is adapting to the individual student’s needs. I work to establish a pastoral relationship with my students so that we can work together to work on what they find challenging, and building and consolidating in areas where they are already strong.
I work to the student’s wishes and ambitions and ultimately aim for them to find enjoyment through their learning. Building on the successful learning we create together and encouragement are key tools in developing a competent, confident student able to attack tasks they thought beyond their capabilities and which allow them to manage classroom work and take exams with confidence in themselves and their abilities.
An ideal tutor-student relationship for me is a tapered one where the support and teaching the student needs from me becomes less important as they acquire the skills, knowledge and techniques to work more independently. However, I have maintained many student relationships way past the original task as the student progresses through their studies, turning to me occasionally for advice or support on a particularly challenging area or task.
My approach is tailored to the individual student's needs. Whether the student is seeking support for short term projects or throughout the academic year I am able to quickly build a good working relationship which facilitates tutoring and enables the student to derive the best results from our sessions.
I believe in building a good, solid basis of knowledge and understanding on which the student can develop their own thoughts and theories enabling a full, in-depth understanding of the subject.
