A fully qualified teacher currently working at a highly successful Sixth form college. My interest in languages was born from an early age, inspired by regular visits to France as well as the opportunity to study French and Russian at University. Having spent extended periods of time in both France and Russia, I have developed fluent written and oral styles in both languages. I still take great enjoyment from travel, reading and immersing myself in the culture of both countries. I am also a keen musician in my spare time.
Since qualifying to teach in 2010, I have worked in both the private and state sectors, preparing students to sit the GCSE / I-GCSE as well as the A- Level examinations. I have substantial experience of delivering the courses of several examination boards, including AQA, WJEC and Cambridge and have a detailed knowledge of the assessment criteria at both GCSE and A-Level. Throughout my career as a teacher i have recognised the importance of gradually building students' confidence in speaking, writing, listening and reading and have developed a range of techniques that can help students approach these tasks with greater confidence in examination settings. I have also greatly enjoyed teaching classes at Key Stage 3 and encouraging new students of languages to approach their study with confidence and enjoyment. Each year, I deliver extension classes to students intending to continue their study of languages at University and have successfully prepared numerous students for Oxbridge entry.
I aim to maintain high expectations of the students I work with and conduct lessons in a relaxed but focussed manner. It is important to gauge the needs of every student and create a programme of study tailored to the needs of each individual. This will include structured development of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as well as consolidation of key grammatical structures. These skills will also be developed in the context of the exam specification (if applicable) and the set topics. I always value feedback from my students and use this consistently to inform future preparation.
