Alexandra

I am fully qualified Science teacher and currently KS5 Science Co-ordinator working at an outstanding secondary school with sixth form. I am 32, have a degree in Biology (2:1) and have been teaching for 7 years having worked in the city prior to a career change to teaching.
Biology is my passion, as is helping students of all abilities and backgrounds to achieve their best. I live in Chingford and work in Loughton and I am available evenings and weekends in surrounding areas, however I primarily offer online tutoring sessions both 1-2-1 and in small groups.

Tutoring Experience

I have trained and workied at an outstanding school in Essex for 5 years then another local school for the last 2 years in a leadership role. I teach students of all abilities in mixed groups and higher/lower sets from year 7 to 13. I have taught Entry level certificate, GCSE (combined and separate science) and A level for the entirety of my career. I have taught the AQA syllabuses to GCSE and A Level, as well as GCSE Edexcel and OCR A level for a number of years as well as well as Edexcel A level, WJEC GCSE and many others in tuituon.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is usually to identify a students' prior knowledge of a topic with prepared quiz questions, then teach or review content as requested. I like to use images and draw diagrams with my graphics tablet/in person to help with this as well as use targeted questioning. Then we will practice the content we have re-visited with exam questions and review answers to build confidence for exams. My main aim is always to make students feel comfortable in their learning environment so they feel confident asking questions and using my own questioning to draw out their best answers and understanding. I believe in helping students to reflect on what topics they need to to revisit in order to improve their independence. I also do focus sessions on specific skills like required practicals and maths within science.
