Hi, I'm Alex and I'm a professional secondary maths teacher. I have been working in mathematics education since 2017, where I did my PGCE at the University of Cambridge. Since then, I've worked in both the state sector and the private sector, whilst also completing a masters in mathematics education at the University of Cambridge.
My teaching experience includes both the secondary mathematics British curriculum (GCSE and A-Level) and the International Baccalaureate (Middle Years and Diploma Programmes). I have experience teaching all year groups from Year 7 to Year 13 (ages 11 to 19) and I have worked with students with a wide range of abilities and needs (including special educational needs and students with English as an additional language). My current job is entirely within the International Baccalaureate. My tutoring experience includes teaching mathematics to both secondary and primary students.
My educational philosophy is based on teaching for conceptual understanding, instead of memorising procedures. My aim in my lessons is to engage the student and help them develop an interest in maths. I believe that every child can learn, improve and make progress, regardless of their starting point, and my goal is to support them in doing that. For students preparing for standardised tests, I support them in both understanding the concepts they learn but also working on exam technique.
