I’m Alicia a Criminology and Sociology (BA, Hons) student at Lancaster University; originally from Durham. I have a passion for understanding and constantly researching crime and society, predominantly in drug research and researching crimes of the powerful. I believe social sciences are a vital learning tool for everyone as they are ingrained in us as they affect our day to day lives. For example, how we are socialised into education and how the media presents a story deeply shape our society.
I’ve studied both Criminology and sociology at Durham Sixth form- achieving an A in both and I currently study criminology and sociology at Lancaster University. I am most familiar with WJEC Level 3 diploma and AQA exam boards. For AQA sociology, I studied: theories, research methods, Crime, Education and Media- though I am familiar with the Families module. In group projects inside of university, I tend to take a role in explaining the in-depth theories in simpler to understand terms while still getting the message across. In sixth form, I helped to lead a small group of criminology students in the coursework based modules in ensuring we all had the perfect coursework.
As much as passing your exam is important, social sciences are about expanding your mind and developing critical thinking skills about the world around you. With this in mind, I would bring in the most up to date examples to aid you in understanding sociology and in passing your exams. In aiding with exam questions, I will offer hands on help guiding through exam questions and how is best to answer them- including doing them with you. For the sociology exam board there are a few easy tips and tricks that make your life easier- sometimes it’s about working smarter not harder. Furthermore, I’m about targeting weak areas and working to build up confidence in them as from experience this is half of the battle.
