I am a well qualified science teacher with over 25 years experience covering secondary, further and higher education. I am also an experienced examiner of biology and chemistry at A level so have a good knowledge of the requirements at this level, and at GCSE. I believe that students find me very approachable and can quickly form a rapport with me which enables them to feel relaxed and at ease. My work in HE involved reviewing university application forms and interviewing potential students, and my current role includes overseeing the university application process. I can therefore also offer advise on UCAS applications and writing personal statements.
I have taught biology and chemistry to A level for over 20 years, and have taught biology to degree level. I also have much experience of teaching all three sciences to GCSE. My students at A level and GCSE have achieved well, often beyond their expectations. I have also tutored students at GCSE and A level and students have been able to improve their grade outcomes, and have found my emphasis on exam technique helpful. My experience as an examiner at A level has also given me a unique insight into how to achieve the top grades.
I try to identify areas of weakness and use a variety of learning styles to improve these. Often students do not achieve as well as they might in exams due to poor exam technique. I use past papers and mark schemes to help students to improve, whilst also aiding their understanding of concepts. I think it is important to identify a students preferred learning style and to use strategies to work with this.
