I am an ambitious undergraduate student studying BSc Global Health and Social Medicine (Neuroscience Pathway). Currently I am eager to branch into tutoring and share my knowledge to others.
From January 2022 to September 2024, I worked as a Class Assistant at Totus Education, supporting Year 4-5 students in core subjects. This role significantly enhanced my confidence and communication skills, as I led summer workshops for groups of 10-20 students and engaged with parents to manage feedback and address concerns. I also contributed to lesson planning, preparation, and assessment, helping to create a structured and effective learning environment.
In July 2023, I volunteered at Kids Inspire’s summer lunch clubs, where I engaged with children to support the smooth running of events. Additionally, from February to April 2023, I trained as a Peer Mentor with Kids Inspire, developing safeguarding awareness and resilience-building techniques, which reinforced my ability to support young people effectively.
My leadership experience as President of my school’s Medicine Society further strengthened my ability to manage groups and work collaboratively. I planned and delivered engaging sessions, maintained consistent attendance, and coordinated guest speaker events. Leading the society also gave me the opportunity to advise Year 12 students on UCAS applications, helping them navigate entrance exams and work experience opportunities. These experiences have allowed me to develop a personable and supportive approach while working with young people.
Given my background in mentoring, teamwork, and event coordination, I believe I am well-prepared to teach others.
My teaching approach as a tutor is student-centered and goal-oriented. I begin by assessing the student’s current understanding, learning style, and specific challenges. I would structure lessons to build their foundational knowledge while addressing gaps through interactive discussions and problem-solving. I encourage active learning by asking questions and providing constructive feedback. I would set actionable goals for my client so that we can visualise progress and adapt my teaching accordingly. My approach also includes regular progress checks and personalized strategies to boost confidence and independence in learning.
