Since graduating in PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics) from Oxford University, I have gained over 30 years’ experience in education as a teacher, tutor and manager, working in UK (mainstream and independent) and overseas schools. I have completed my PGCE with QTS in secondary mathematics, and also teach English language and literature, and philosophy. I have worked with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as programme coordinator, and English and Theory of Knowledge teacher.
I have considerable experience of teaching students with SEN (special educational needs) and also students for whom English is a second language. I am currently working at a virtual school in the UK as a GCSE tutor for SEN students, and as an online tutor for both UK and overseas students, teaching maths, English language and literature, and philosophy.
I have a versatile, individual-oriented approach to tutoring. I aim to make lessons interesting and relevant for my students, and also to deal with difficulties and misconceptions using methods suited to their individual needs, for example, practical activities and technology. I ensure that students practise topics and skills taught in lessons in regular homework assignments. I provide students and parents with written feedback, as I know how important it is for students to engage fully in their own learning and for parents to be kept in the loop.
