My name is Amelia Rees, I am a final year medical student studying at Manchester having left school with 3A*s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths A Level, and a mixture of 9s and A*s at GCSE. Throughout my time at school I found a way to enjoy my learning and appreciate the satisfaction of understanding new concepts and being able to apply them successfully in my studies. My aim is to help share this with other students, to take away the resentment and stress and help to instil a passion for learning. I was an academic scholar at my school and very much enjoy helping younger students to build their confidence and progress in their studies. With the constraints of COVID and classroom teaching over zoom, I believe the engaging 1:1 teaching and revision resources I am providing will be invaluable to students today.
In the past have been Tutouring for GCSE subjects (particularly biology, chemistry and maths) alongside my studies. All feedback I have received has been highly positive and students appreciate the time and planning I put into our sessions. I am hoping to expand the subjects and levels that I tutor.
As I have experience of being the recipient of online teaching I believe this gives me a valuable insight for what it is like for students being taught at the moment, which helps me to fully help and engage the students I tutor.
I approach my tutoring sessions in a professional yet friendly manner, ensuring that my students feel comfortable and confident with the subject matter we are covering. I provide resources including PowerPoint slides with up-to-date, exam board specific content required for each subject based on what the student would like to cover. This way we can cover all the content to make sure there is sound understanding, which we then use to approach exam questions to consolidate this knowledge and ensure they are able to apply it in the context of an exam. I also provide questions for the students to do in their spare time if they choose. I would like to emphasise that my style of tutoring is very much student led, as I am aware of the loss of interaction that comes with online teaching, so I ensure that my students are actively engaged and that we cover topics chosen by the student to enhance their understanding and performance in exams.
