I am a qualified primary teacher with over seven years' experience in both the state and independent sectors. After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Classics, I studied for my PGCE at the Institute of Education whilst training at a placement school via a highly regarded two-year leadership programme.
I first taught at an outstanding primary school in Newham (awarded 'Top State Primary School' in the country by The Sunday Times in 2017) before relocating to north London and teaching at Highgate Junior School. I am currently working part-time as a PPA teacher at a primary school in east London.
I have extensive experience in both Key Stages 1 and 2 across the National Curriculum, working with children of all abilities and backgrounds. In addition to my classroom teaching, I have also been responsible for writing the 7+ English entrance examination paper for Highgate Junior School, as well as planning and teaching the 7+ English interview lesson for shortlisted candidates.
I have recently started offering online tuition and look forward to using my extensive experience to support individual students.
I am currently offering online tuition only.
Prior to our first lesson, we will complete a short profile together to help me understand your needs and targets, and also get a sense of the student's strengths and interests. The student will then be asked to try their best at an independent task, or tasks, that I use as a baseline assessment to plan our first tuition sessions together.
During lessons, I aim to build confidence via a mix of short warm-up tasks and longer exercises focusing on developing target skills. I endeavour to make sessions fun yet challenging and incorporate children's interests to help motivate and inspire. We use an interactive whiteboard which allows the student to engage fully and actively.
After each lesson, students will be set a homework task to complete independently at home that I will mark ahead of the next session. Sometimes I will also ask students to complete a short pre-learning task (15 minutes) to help prepare them for a new topic. This may involve watching a video or looking at a passage / example questions.
