I am Head of Computer Science at one of Kent’s best achieving independent schools. Prior to this I taught Computer Science and ICT at an outstanding grammar school for girls in Kent. I am a fully qualified teacher (PGCE and QTLS). As well as a BSc with Honours in Computer Science, I have an MSc with Distinction in Internet Technology.
I have been teaching for many years across all age groups. I currently teach KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have taught up to degree level. In addition I have also taught ICT, Business & Communication Studies and CiDA/DiDA and on undergraduate Access pathways. Over the past 7 years I have led on very successful outcomes for Computer Science GCSE and A Level students. I have written articles on programming for the ACM Crossroads undergraduate magazine.
Getting to know the student and what motivates them is a top priority for me. I try my best to inspire the best from my students. On a one to one basis I can focus on the tools, techniques and learning style that will meet the needs of the individual. I am fastidious about finding the best way to explain concepts so that students can grasp them easily. I then work on techniques to reinforce that learning so that it is embedded. I am keen to equip the student with the tools to enable them to recall and apply the concepts they have learned in an exam situation. Building their confidence in this way is the best recipe not only for success but to excel in that success and hopefully gain the A's and A*s or 8's and 9's they deserve!
