I am an English and Special Needs Teacher. I have taught English and students with SEN and additional needs throughout the ability and key stage range from P7 to A-level for twelve years and for the past eight years I have had middle leadership and/or head of faculty experience. Many of these young people have found school enthralling and challenging at the same time. I believe that through my commitment to the effective provision of individualised learning programmes I have always allowed the students I work with to overcome their barriers to learning. I have been given ‘outstanding’ observations by Performance Managers, School Improvement Partners, OFSTED and HMI and the latter remarked of my practice that I have ‘the ability to see what is required’ in my role ‘and communicate that effectively to my learning team which in turn is sensitively passed to the students’ (HMI report: June 2014). I feel that my ability to inform, listen and respond, allied to my detailed knowledge of SEN teaching and my up to date knowledge of changes to the English Curriculum, will allow me to lead this exciting role and take staff and students with me.
I have taught in several different environments have a proven track record of improving attainment in English through systematic teaching and learning methods. I have worked in challenging environments and high achieving schools and would feel comfortable teaching A-level and GCSE English at top and borderline line grade points. I have vast experience at working in small groups and 1:1 with students with Dyslexia, ASD and ADHD. I am also in receipt of specialist qualifications for the teaching and learning of students with a diagnosis or tendencies towards ASD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia.
I see tutoring as a chance to build on the cornerstones of learning for students to achieve their goals. I believe the 1:1 sessions should be fun and enjoyable yet closely allied to the curriculum offer the individual student is current following.
