I am a qualified teacher having worked in both grammar and college education. I am the mother of four children, and have been happily married for over 30 years. I am a UK athletics development coach and have coached voluntarily for five years. I was a karate sensei for three years, and have ran several marathons.I am a very caring person and have a great empathy for the students in my care. I can speak conversational French, German and Italian, and have my teaching qualifications, a masters in Biomechanics, a degree in Law, Sports studies, a conversion degree in English, History and Biology, A levels in History, English and Geography as well as various O Levels. I have old fashioned values and believe manners are important, as well as the fact that children learn in different ways and as a teacher it is my job to change how I teach if a child does not understand, there are no failing children, only failing teachers.
I was a volunteer coach for St Helen's Catholic Primary School for five years, I was a karate sensei for three years and I have taught at South Essex College in FE for three years. During this time I have taught Sport and Exercise Science which encompasses psychology, anatomy and physiology, bio mechanics, coaching, nutrition, sociology and fitness training. I also taught functional skills maths and English. I was also a personal tutor during this time to two different groups of students, and have experience at teaching special needs. It was also while I was teaching at the college that friends asked me to help their children with the 11+, which I did. I have also gained my Professional Graduate Certificate in Education while working at the college, and qualified teacher status. I then worked at the grammar school Southend High School for Girls, covering a variety of lessons but specialising in English, history and the Sciences. I have now given up this post to specialise in home tutoring and concentrate on my Phd.
I believe that every child is an individual and learns not only in a different way, but also at different paces to their peers. However we live in a society where everyone is expected to be all at the same level and to achieve their goals at the same time. This is just not feasible and this is where I can step in and not only help these children with their academia but also in their self confidence and help them achieve the best that they can. Being a parent and grandparent I can empathise with the problems that children face, and can do my utmost to help them overcome them.
If you wish me to tutor your child I will do my utmost to help them achieve their potential.
