I am a warm caring person who brings to my teaching a love of learning.My philosophy is, "that everyone is special and has their own unique talent," and "we all learn in our own time and in our own way."
I have A levels in English Language and Literature, Economics, History and Geography, graduated from the University of Exeter in 1995 with a BA in Primary humanities (History, Geography and R.E.). I went on to take a CELTA certificate in teaching English as a foreign language; working in several language schools and teaching students of all ages from 6-74 from around the world.I am available during the day as well as I supply teach now.
I took my MA in English from 2007-2009 while working as a supply teacher and gained a distinction. I tailor make many resources for my students in my spare time and have a wealth of teaching materials to aid the learning process.

Tutoring Experience

I have 27 years teaching experience in the primary classroom and as a tutor and 10 years seasonal experience as a TEFL (English as a foreign Language teacher). In addition, I have tutored succcessfully for KS1, KS2, KS3, G.C.S.E. and AS and A-Level English, as well as history G.C.S.E , AS and A-Level.Furthermore I have tutored in Maths (KS1- KS4) and science at KS2.
As I work with students at all levels, I am aware of what is needed at each stage and have in depth knowledge of each step in the learning process.
Moreover,I am an extemely dedicated tutor and have even marked a students coursework for them when their class teacher was unable to do so. I assist students with the necessary background reading needed for coursework, as well as teaching them about essay technique, finding key quotes and exam techniques.
My A level students this year acheived A and B grades and A, A* in their coursework. My younger students have all had glowing reports and have made excellent progress, some are working at a level 2 years above their current year group.
In addition, I worked with special needs students for many years I a variety of units and in main stream classrooms.
Finally, I have tutored successfully for the 11+ entrant's exams for the past 4 years. A previous student acheived an acedemic scholarship and all have passed with flying colours.
Please note that I do tutor for 11+ and higher but if necessary materials such as papers or access to
papers is required then naturally these costs will be in addition to my hourly fee.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is to make the learner feel at ease, and then to see where they are starting from. Once this has been established, I teach the key skills needed to make progress. I help the learner to gain in confidence with practise, guidance and a range of activities to suit the learner's style. I have a good sense of humour and a warm and friendly personality. I believe that if you teach someone how to do something well, those skills will prove invaluable for life.
I go the extra mile to help my students succeed, which is why many of them remain with me from primary through secondary education.
