I studied Physics at the University of York before continuing to a PGCE in Science with Physics Specialism. I am currently working in a school just outside of York where I have been for the last six years. My current responsibilities include teaching KS3 Science, GCSE Sciences, A Level Physics, Pupil Premium Physics Mentoring as well as being a Head of House and Head of Year 10 Physics.
Having tutored and taught in schools for the last eight years I understand the importance of adapting to each student's individual needs and areas of weakness. I work with students and parents to ensure that they are developing in their confidence and exam skills, as well as their content knowledge.
As an examiner for both AQA and Edexcel I also understand the nuances and focuses of each exam board and am able to disseminate these to the students I work with. Through assessed and one-to-one work with your child I will be able to provide personalised feedback, helping your child to achieve the grades they want.
Tutoring can be expensive, so if you are looking for a cheaper alternative I am now offering multi-student classes at reduced rates. These will be available from September 2024, will be be online classes of up to 5. For more details get in-touch.
I have taught at schools across the globe and now currently teach at a school just outside of York.
My students both in school and through tutoring regularly beat the national averages at each grade level, with almost double achieving grade 8 and 9.
I believe in a mastery approach. For this to work, we first need to identify the students strengths and weaknesses, before moving onto a process of teaching, solidifying and assessment.

After an initial meeting with yourself and child where we discuss your reasons for seeking tutoring, I will ask for copies of any recent tests to be sent to me via email. This will allow to me to identify areas for focus. These may include: content gaps, maths skills, or exam skills (such as interpreting command words, understanding what the question is, or even timing). From there I will create a personalised plan for your child that will take them to the appropriate level and consolidate their understanding. At the end of each lesson students will be asked what they thought worked well for them and plans adapted in line. Education does not always follow a linear path and so communication between parents, student and tutor is key.
