Private Online Maths and Chemistry Tuition

Hello, Mieke here -

I graduated with a Masters in Chemistry in 2021, and joined the UK civil service shortly after. I'm offering tutoring in Maths and Chemistry for secondary school and A Level students - whether to help support you getting to grips with topics you're studying in class, or in enabling you to get ahead of the curve and further develop your understanding of these subjects.

I hope to hear from you!

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive tutoring experience, ranging from group settings to one-to-one sessions.

Whilst studying for my Chemistry Masters, I provided weekly GCSE Maths tuition, following the current Edexcel and AQA curricula, via Durham University's Children Achieving Through Student Support (CATTS) secondary school programme.

From 2020-2021, I was employed as a Chemistry Laboratory Assistant at the University of Tuebingen, Germany. This involved online tutoring to small group classes (up to 10 students) of students studying for their Bachelor degrees in Chemistry. This required me to explain chemistry concepts and support students in conducting online research. To do this, I would hold short presentations, then focus on engaging everyone by using whiteboards and interactive Q&As. I would use these tools to build a collaborative atmosphere, where students felt free to give it a go, and not be worried about making mistakes. At the end of each research block, I would deliver a feed-back and review session, where I would explain and help the students understand common areas of confusion.

My most recent job role necessitated explaining complex and technical scientific concepts to non-scientists in a professional setting, discussing a range of different scientific areas.

Tutoring Approach

I offer online tutoring with flexible times to suit your own schedule. Before starting our tutoring sessions, I hold a consultation to better understand how I can assist your understanding and skills in Chemistry and Mathematics, and the goals you're hoping to achieve. This includes discussing additional requirements, such as being provided with additional out-of-tutoring-hours worksheets.

I have extensive experience tutoring online, both one-to-one and in group settings, and typically use a range of tools which best suit your learning style. This includes whiteboards, holding interactive Q&As.
