⦿ I’m a full-time professional private tutor with a proven track record of helping students succeed, specialising in A-level Economics, Politics, and essay writing. I have well over 10,000 hours of 1-to-1 tuition experience with more than 400 students.
⦿ I’m approachable, knowledgeable, engaging, and empathetic.
⦿ For my A-levels, I studied Economics, English, History, and Politics at Brighton College, before earning a joint honours degree in Politics and Philosophy from Bristol University. I’ve been working as a private tutor ever since and have settled in North London. Outside of my academic interests, I play football a couple of times a week and enjoy reading and traveling during my time off from tutoring.
⦿ I’m Enhanced DBS-checked and have availability for the 2025 exams.
Since starting in 2010, I’ve built up well over 10,000 hours of experience in 1-to-1 tuition with more than 400 students. My primary focus has been A-levels, though I also tutor at GCSE and university levels. With in-depth knowledge of the content and a personable, patient approach, I’ve built strong relationships with my students, often supporting them across multiple subjects. Most of my tutoring these days is conducted online, via Zoom.
I’ve worked with students from across the UK (predominantly from London and Brighton) as well as internationally, including Commonwealth countries that use the major UK exam boards. More recently, I’ve also been helping younger students in Hong Kong, Singapore, and China prepare for interviews and 11+/13+ entrance exams to top independent schools such as Wellington, Eton, and Harrow. Over this time, I’ve supported a diverse range of students, including those with specific learning challenges, helping them build confidence and overcome difficulties in areas such as academic content, essay-writing, study skills, and motivation.
I'm very familiar with all the major exam boards (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and Cambridge IGCSE) and stay up to date with their specific requirements. I also have plenty of experience helping with academic writing, including general essay writing, history coursework, university research projects, and master’s theses.
Sessions are typically 1 or 1.5 hours, once a week – but really, this is entirely up to you. And I’m generally flexible with scheduling additional ones as needed, especially as exams approach. The structure of our sessions will depend on the individual’s needs, which we’d have an open discussion about in the first meeting. Typically, they will involve some combination of: essay-writing feedback and advice; content coverage, gap-filling, and troubleshooting of problem areas; revision support and tailored recommendations; and focused exam preparation. I can also assign work for students to complete, which we can then review together in the following session.
Over time, I've often been asked to provide general mentoring across multiple subjects, helping with specific topics, study skills, revision strategies, and time-management techniques. My approach is built around patient, directed motivation, with a focus on building rapport and establishing a supportive relationship – especially for students who are feeling overwhelmed by content, essay writing, and exam revision.
In my online sessions, I make full use of whiteboards and screen-sharing to go through past papers, mark schemes, essay feedback, and a wide range of relevant, up-to-date resources. And while I always have my webcam on, students are welcome to go audio-only if they'd prefer. I’m also happy to communicate between sessions both with parents and students via email, phone, WhatsApp, or any other preferred method of contact.
⦿ Content: My focus is on helping students develop a deeper understanding of the material, rather than simply trying to memorise it. My sessions emphasise the use and evaluation of content in real-world contexts, improving how that knowledge is ultimately applied in exams. Through active discussion, questioning, and troubleshooting, I address gaps in knowledge and clarify uncertainties around complex concepts. Sessions can either support ongoing classwork or target specific topics and are always tailored to the exam board’s requirements.
⦿ Essay Writing: I help students improve their essay writing, from planning, structuring and applying knowledge to presenting analysis and evaluation effectively, while also managing time efficiently. My detailed feedback is tailored to the specific requirements of the exam board, ensuring that students can apply it directly to their future work. Sessions will often include comprehensively going over the feedback I've provided on essays, followed by collaboratively planning future essays. This way, students have solid, clear, well-structured essay plans to use for revision, helping them feel more prepared for exams.
⦿ Exam Preparation: Effective exam preparation is fundamental; my goal here is to make the specific requirements of different question formats as transparent as possible. To this end, we’ll go through past papers, mark schemes, and examiner reports together to build familiarity and confidence. I also help students develop effective revision and time-management strategies that prepare them for exam conditions, focusing on structured, engaging learning that builds both subject knowledge and exam technique. Central to my approach is encouragement, alongside creating – and sticking to! – a revision and essay practice schedule, which helps students stay on track and motivated to succeed in their exams.
