I am currently employed at a research institute in Belgium where I am currently based. After completing my PhD in Physics at Queen's University Belfast, I decided to continue my teaching practice online as so many young people have been left behind as a result of the pandemic.
I have been tutoring for six years and I received formal training as part of my PhD. I have a lot of experience working with young people with special educational needs such as ASD and ADHD.
I tailor my approach to the student. In my own experience, learning is a very personal process and everybody does it differently. Use of colourful mind maps and "gamification" can help commit lessons to memory, but ultimately there is no substitute for lots of past paper questions. All lessons are conducted online via MS Teams since my relocation to Belgium and while this approach will not work for every student for others it provides a range of extra ways to engage with the material.
