Currently studying Medicine at Norwich Medical School. I received a Medicine offer from Cambridge, which I declined due to personal reasons. Becoming a doctor requires me to be proficient in teaching and to understand how to explain topics coherently to different ages and audiences. I teach in a way that pushes my students to be curious about their subject while giving them time to understand. By doing this patiently, they can achieve their potential with little pressure.
Part of studying medicine requires the ability to teach others, including peers and others around me. I have always taken part in teaching, whether it be for my friends to understand the subject at hand or for younger relatives needing help. I have volunteered at a nearby school to teach various ages, which requires different approaches.
I have also taught those with special educational needs, such as dyslexia and dysgraphia, and those with ADHD. With this experience, I can tailor my teaching style to the student and help them improve their education, which the school system often fails to do.
Adapting my teaching style to each student allows me to yield the most beneficial learning from them. I believe that understanding the subject is required to excel in the exams, rather than on information alone.
I ask precise questions, which chips away at doubt surrounding a concept, and creates a broader understanding. Getting these questions wrong is just as important as getting them right, as it allows me to realise where teaching is needed. My style engages the student and gives them the confidence to answer exam questions accurately.
I understand when some students require more time to work out specific questions; this is where I give them space to understand, as rushing them hinders their progress. This environment isn't always possible at schools, where there are time limits to everything, which hinders the student's progress.
