I am a Geography teacher who lives on the East Coast of Scotland with my husband, daughter and dog, Luna. We are very lucky to have some fantastic local Geography which we enjoy exploring together. Since starting our family I am lucky to work part time, although I miss the buzz of being full time in the school, I keep myself very busy spending lots of time cooking and baking, or in the garden running around after our little girl.
I have taught a combination of Geography, Support for Learning and Numeracy for the last 8 years. This diverse experience has given me a good understanding of the challenges learners face, and how to overcome them. I have taught Geography at all levels up to Advanced Higher. Over the years I have tutored pupils both in person and online and thoroughly enjoy spending the time to help pupils prepare in the best way possible for their exams. I have marked for the SQA at both Higher and National 5 level, and bring a very positive and encouraging attitude to our sessions. My knowledge is of the Scottish Exam system, so this is the area I can help pupils most.
I tailor my lessons to what suits pupils individually. Some pupils like to go over powerpoints in a lesson style, some like to create new notes, for some we have a good discussion and make revision note cards. I am adaptable and creative in the way we get the information to stick with plenty practice of what matters -exam style questions! I try to use reference points local to the pupil I am tutoring, in order to help familiarise pupils with the concepts and help them understand.
