MY PRINCIPLES / STYLE OF TEACHING:
Open and engaging style of teaching - aim to instil confidence in students to conduct rigorous and evidence backed analysis in the realm of history and politics, and gain an appreciation for balanced argumentation. I have three key principles that shape my teaching philosophy:
1 - LISTENING. My style as a tutor is to first listen and then tailor a programme to help the student. I am a very good listener - I truly believe that as a tutor, you have to first and foremost understand the needs and concerns of the students.
FOCUS ON BLINDSPOTS & REGULAR REVISION - Once the concerns and weaknesses of the student is identified, then I will focus on these subjects or themes that the student might be struggling with or any blindspots they might have. The key to improving in these areas is consistency. I will focus on these areas in the lessons until fully confident the student has mastered it, and encourage the students to read on a daily or weekly basis, and undertake tasks I have set out to assist the student - emphasis is on adopting "consistent repetition" in revising topics they want to improve on, and "regular revision" which is key to success across programmes.
PRACTISE produces CONFIDENCE - The key to succeeding in academia is practising for "match day" - exam day. Knowing your weaknesses, focusing on them and regularly revising is key. However, I will also present mock exam questions to the students, which will bolster the student's confidence ahead of exams. Tackling and answering exam questions from past papers for example will give students some insight into what to expect, and enable them to perfect time management for exams and ease concerns.
