I am a secondary Spanish teacher and native speaker with many years of experience working in a variety of posts in London. I am a friendly and professional person, and I have always developed good relationships with students and parents through clear communication. I have consistently fostered positive links with parents by having productive conversations on the phone, during school visits and at parents’ evenings, and by utilising the reporting system to keep them well informed about their children’s progress. Equally, I have always built a very good rapport with my students by striving to ensure they feel comfortable in class and therefore able to participate fully and realise their potential.
Contributing to someone's education and sharing my passion for all things Spanish is something I genuinely enjoy and I could not possibly think of a more rewarding job to do. I am a committed and dedicated teacher and I am confident I can help students to improve their Spanish in a fun and interesting way.
I have many years’ experience teaching Spanish and I have invariably found it very fulfilling. I have been in charge of the teaching of Spanish at both AS and A2, and have successfully taught these syllabuses as a sole teacher for several consecutive years as well as the GCSE course. In these positions, I have been the Spanish coordinator and have taught the subject across KS3, 4 and 5. I have used the AQA and Edexcel examining boards for both GCSE and A level and I feel very confident teaching both courses; I have a very good understanding of what is required of students in order to be successful.
Teaching the Sixth Form on my own has stretched me as a teacher and has given me the opportunity to teach interesting literary and cultural topics such as La casa de Bernarda Alba, Yerma, Volver and El Laberinto del Fauno. In the last few years, I have developed a wide range of resources for A level topics and teaching the Sixth Form has provided me with some of my most memorable lessons.
I am familiar with a variety of textbooks and I have used Viva at KS3 and KS4 and the AQA GCE books and Kerboodle resources at KS5. I have also used Listos and Mira in the past and I am very familiar with them.
My main experience has been as a school teacher but I have also taught adults on a one to one basis and would be very happy to offer my services to adults as well as children and teenagers.
I use a range of teaching and learning strategies to inspire and motivate my students and to challenge them to achieve highly. These include visual stimuli, kinaesthetic activities and the use of language software. I often use web-based materials such as songs, authentic clips and educational websites.
A few years ago, I obtained The Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL). During that course I learnt an exciting range of new language teaching techniques that I now incorporate into the teaching of Spanish. Amongst these are the uses of elicitation, modelling, and delayed error correction, as well as setting a learning context or using an inductive approach to the teaching of grammar. I always aim for a communicative approach in my lessons, keeping my students active and always involved, and reducing teacher talking time.
