I am a 23 year-old graduate of the Mountview MA in Theatre Directing who is looking for flexible work to support myself whilst pursuing a career in the arts. I am a diligent, focused and enthusiastic young man, and I pride myself on my academic and interpersonal skills, both of which equip me very well for this work. I have worked with young people a lot in my professional life in various ways, and am looking to make this a cornerstone of my future career path - I find the work extremely fulfilling and believe fervently that supporting the education and nurturing of students is the best thing we can do to improve the lives of future generations.
I have worked as a tutor for the last five-six years, both privately (as a self-employed person, and for the company 11+ Wirral) and as part of the government's 1-1 Covid-19 Tutoring scheme at a school in Barnsley. I have tutored a range of subjects: 11+, KS3/4 Maths and English support, GCSE Maths, English, Science and History, and A-level Drama and English. I have also worked and volunteered at multiple youth theatres. I have had great success doing this, with many students improving their grades and passing their exams with my support.
I normally tutor students with upcoming exams, so I like to place my focus on what is required for this. Passing exams is about understanding both the format, and your audience, so I use a lot of mock exam settings to allow the students to get an understanding of this. Collaborative discussion is also something I find extremely important - ideally I would like the student to figure out as much of the answer on their own as they can and form those neural pathways themselves, with my support merely nudging and poking them in the right direction. Nevertheless, I have excellent reasoning and explanation skills, and I can take a student through all the steps required to understand a concept if necessary. Finally, I often find it useful and important to find the fun in the study, and I like to use games and informal patter to achieve this when possible.
