I'm a qualified CELTA teacher, and have taught in England, Spain, and Japan. I currently travel between Italy and England a lot, and I have a basic-intermediate level in Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. I work part-time as a teacher, and part-time in audio and music for video games, and am looking to help new students improve their English!
After a short time working as a classroom assistant in Seville 10 years ago, I first started teaching English in 2014 after getting my CELTA qualification. I first moved to Madrid, where I taught one-to-one and group lessons, predominantly in business English and general conversational English. I returned to England and worked at a number of schools on short-term bases, such as for school classes coming to England for two weeks for English lessons and full immersion. During my Audio Production degree, I worked at Twin UK in Greenwich, again teaching predominantly English conversation to adults.
In 2017, I moved to Japan for just over a year, where I taught at two schools, private in-person lessons, and online classes. This included teaching adults, teenagers, and very young children; conversational classes and business English; school exam preparation, and national English certification preparation. Since 2019, I have predominantly worked in the audio industry, but I am now itching to get back into teaching English on a less frequent basis.
Learning a new language can be daunting, difficult, and even frustrating, so my main aim is to create a comfortable, inviting, and enjoyable atmosphere between myself and my students in order to help them learn effectively and efficiently. I take great care in listening to my students to understand their level, which helps me to tailor my teaching style to different students.
My classes are usually structured to allow for introductions to vocabulary or grammatical structures, a more in-depth look at it, and oral practice, alongside other important skills such as reading and listening. I try to set homework to help students retain information and feel like they are improving; I believe students being able to demonstrate to themselves that they are learning and improving is very important, as it can help boost their self-esteem and motivation, and keep the lessons fun, light-hearted, and engaging.
