I am a full-time primary school teacher with 10 years of experience in the UK and overseas.
I have been teaching for 10 years with 8 years of experience across EYFS & KS1 (reception-year 2) and 2 years in UKS2 (year 5 and year 6). Three of these years were spent working overseas where I was able to lead teaching and learning. Most of my experience is in Year 6 where I have achieved and improved outcomes for individuals and the cohort. I have delivered many after school boosters for children who need extra support as well as 1:1 support.
I have worked in four different schools that vary in demographic.
My approach varies depending on the student. I would start with diagnostic assessment to identify any learning gaps and teach to those in order to build the foundations needed to build new skills on. When teaching skills, I take a ‘small steps’ approach to avoid cognitive overload, help with student success and build their confidence. Throughout their learning, I will be performing constant assessment through questioning and feedback. Learning will be supporting with a range of resources that I feel suit the needs of the student. My approach will vary as children are individual learners and depending on the subject, or topic area, may respond positively to a range of approaches. I believe it is integral that parents/carers are involved in their child’s learning so regular updates with strategies that aid their progress are standard.
