I'm a Mathematics graduate and have been working as an Actuarial Consultant in the Pensions industry for the past 9 years.
I have been tutoring for over 12 years now. All my past tutees have received grades between A* and B, specifically all my A-level and GCSE Maths students have received A* or A.
My tutoring history with the grades achieved with students in past academic years is shown below:
2011 - 2012 (3 GCSE students - All A's)
2012 - 2013 (8 A-Level students - 3 A*, 4 A and 1 B), (2 GCSE students - both A*)
2013 - 2014 (10 A-level students - 5 A*, 3 A and 2 B).
2014 - 2015 (2 undergraduate students - both received 1st in their maths modules, 8 A-level students - 4 A*, 4 A and one GCSE student - A*).
2015-2016 (4 A-level students, 3 A's and B)
2016 - 2018 - break from tutoring
2018 - 2019 (2 A-level students - 2 As)
Furthermore I've prepared 10 students thus far in securing a place at Oxford or Cambridge for entry in the what most would consider the best undergraduate course in Mathematics globally. I've helped them at each stage from writing a personal statement, MAT/ STEP (entrance exams) and some interview advice. 7 out of 10 students made it till the interview stage and 5 have secured a place at these prestigious institutions.
My initial approach is always to identify any weaknesses in core techniques which are often the cause of struggle when students reach more advanced stages in the curriculum. I emphasise on understanding a concept, rather than generalising on examples, through a step by step explanation. I then assess using a range of questions which ensures the student has understood the concept.
I use a simple methodical approach trying to relate to analogies where possible for a more intuitive understanding but also cater to any individual needs of the student. I provide all the necessary learning material from notes to past papers
