I'm a former History teacher and Head of Humanities with a wide range of experience. I build strong relationships with students of all ages and abilities, through humour, praise and challenge. A love of learning is one of the most satisfying things in life and is the best motivator a student can have. I will regularly ask for feedback from students and parents to ensure the best possible experience and value for money.
I have 13 years teaching experience in inner city and suburban schools, as well as privately tutoring. As Head of Humanities I have excellent experience of raising educational achievement, even outside of my areas of specialism. My GCSE and A Level results were regularly in the top 10% of the country, and my tutees last year all achieved top grades. Most of my A Level students went on to study at Russell Group universities, and others to Oxbridge. I have excellent knowledge of all the major exam boards and have taught a wide range of specifications. I am also an examiner for Edexcel, AQA and OCR at GCSE and A Level.
My sessions are rigorous but individualised. I want to understand what motivates each individual and tailor my teaching to them. My fundamental teaching principles are knowledge recall, structured practice and targeted feedback.
I have high standards because I know the vital importance of educational achievement and believe in the potential of every student I teach. I work with students supportively to motivate them to achieve their best and open doors to the future.
History is a fascinating but academically challenging subject - I can bring it alive to students to develop a love for the subject. The intellectual rigour, critical analysis and advanced writing skills are highly sought after in today's job market and I will ensure that this is a key aspect of our sessions. This will entail exam technique, but the highest achieving students will take a much more holistic approach to learning. I also teach Politics and Sociology, taking a similarly rigorous approach and ensuring students keep up to date with the latest political developments and current affairs.
