I currently work part-time for the NHS and I also work as an ESOL tutor. I have most experience teaching beginners and intermediates, but would be able to teach all levels. I appreciate how difficult it is to learn the English language and how learning it would facilitate the lives of people who are not native to the UK.
I would also like to help anyone who has English as a first language but would like to improve their grammar.
I have three years Voluntary Experience as a tutor for the Kirklees Talk English Project and for Syrian refugees, based at Paddock Community Trust, Huddersfield. This included teaching whole classes, small groups and one-to-one. I received a Kirklees Community Learning Award for Volunteer of the Year (2017), for my work with Paddock Community Trust.
I am now a Freelance ESOL Tutor, teaching English (including English Grammar), at the Yorkshire English School in Huddersfield and for the Afghanistan and Central Asia Association, ESOL for Integration.
I have a relaxed, learner-centred approach to teaching. I go at my learner‘s pace and try to teach them topics they want to learn about, that are interesting to them and relevant to their daily lives. I encourage students to have fun and even laugh at themselves (or myself) on occasion.
To improve on my own grammar I completed an online grammar course for language teachers, which I have lifelong access to and will in turn aid my students.
I mainly offer one-to-one lessons but am willing to teach pairs.
