Hello! Are you finding it difficult to communicate in English? Do you need support with work or your studies? Would you like a new and fun challenge this term? Whatever your age, level or needs, you've come to the right place because my aim is to share my passion for English with you. My name is Carla and I am a university-educated English teacher and trainer from London, who loves helping people learn this quirky language. I have a clear, standard British accent, which my students tell me is easy to understand.
I've been passionate about languages since I started learning French at school at the age of eight. I understand that there are those who don't love languages as much as I do, perhaps because of negative early learning experiences (I was lucky enough to have some great teachers!) so my aim is to share my passion with my students and show you that learning a language can actually be fun and hugely rewarding.
I also have an art background and am a highly creative person; I design most of my material and tailor this to suit the needs and interests of my clients, which means that studying with me will always be an engaging experience. Learning foreign languages myself helps me to understand the challenges that learners face, so I am well-equipped to anticipate your weaknesses and I am always patient and encouraging.
It makes me very happy to see the students I work with gain confidence and start to believe in themselves and in their abilities; it's one of the things I love most about my job - being able to make a positive difference in someone's life, especially in a world where speaking English is such a vital communicative skill.
Eighteen years' experience teaching English to foreign students of all ages and nationalities at some of the world's top language schools and universities, including International House, St Giles International, the Royal College of Art and UCL (University College London). I also tutor privately via my own business: www.intolingo.com.
My lessons are designed to help you improve your general, academic or business English. I also support younger learners with their schoolwork, helping prepare them for the English component of exams such as the 11-Plus and GCSEs.
I am professional, patient and supportive, and will adapt my lessons to suit your needs. I can assist you with:
★ SPEAKING (conversational / transactional / professional / giving presentations)
★ LISTENING (understanding formal and informal English / different speeds and accents)
★ WRITING (formal and informal / essays / creative / work correspondence)
★ READING (improving speed and comprehension and understanding the meaning of new words)
★ GRAMMAR (range of structures and functions)
★ VOCABULARY (phrasal verbs / collocation / idioms / formal and informal language)
★ PRONUNCIATION (speaking more clearly and naturally)
With my help you will become a more confident user of English. My lessons are always tailor-made for the individual - I will not just give you lots of generic grammar gap fills to work on, as these are boring and not particularly useful. With me you can be sure that I will be focusing on YOUR particular needs.
You can choose to do 1-hour, 1.5-hour or 2-hour lessons with me as often as you would like in the week. I am usually available late mornings, afternoons and evenings from Monday to Friday.
I am DBS-checked and am happy to provide references on request. If you need help editing your Word documents, I also provide a proofreading service.
