I have a Biomedical Sciences (Hons) degree and a PGCE in Science. Currently I teach Physics, Chemistry and Biology KS3, KS4, KS5 as well as A-level Biology at a local secondary school.
I am an experienced professional secondary school science teacher with over 5 years teaching experience.
My academic background and secondary school teaching experience means I am fully up to date on the latest exam board requirements and have successfully tutored many pupils.
My focus is on a 'step by step concept based learning approach'. This mean really getting to grips with the concepts behind the topic. In this way the pupil gains a thorough understanding and can leverage that deep understanding to tackle any question on that topic. Also I stress key words the examiners are looking for. All too often I have seen pupils write long paragraph answers but achieve little or no marks. This is because the pupil has not explicitly stated the key word(s) the examiners have to look for in order to award a mark, this is especially true for the big mark questions.
As we know practice questions are a key part to success and they need to worked through rigorously, lots of questions specifically targeting a given topic in order to reinforce understanding. This also builds confidence and a positive mindset.
