I am a mum with four children, and came to teaching later in life, after teaching in a university and working for the police.
I love spending time with my kids - even after a day at school! - walking the dog, reading and creative writing.
I’m about to start my seventh year of teaching English literature and language at a comprehensive school. In that time, I have taught mixed ability, girls and boys, and have secured progress for my students regardless of their starting points.
I am confident in teaching all areas of KS3, and in delivering the AQA specification for literature and language. However, I am more than happy to teach the specifications of other exam boards if required.
Kind, supportive and clear: I like to create order out of confusion and work on very specific targets for improvement.
English is based on the development of skill rather than the acquisition of facts and I see tutoring as a journey with clearly-marked signposts along the way. Students should know what their end destination is, what they need to do in order to get there, and how to recognise their own progress as their skills improve.
I like to foster a resilient and positive attitude to learning in general, and English in particular - I love my subject! - and always aim to lead by example.
