I am a Durham English graduate and am a qualified teacher, working full time at a multi-academy trust in West London. After completing my A-levels in English, History, Spanish and Japanese (A, A, A, A*) in 2016, I completed my degree with an First Class Honours and completed the Teach First Leadership Development Programme.
I have taught a range of literary texts to classes between Year 7 and 12, with experience of English GCSE (Literature and Language) and A-level. Alongside this, I completed a PGDE with UCL's Insitute of Education, achieving Grade A (100%) in 2 out of 3 of my Masters level assignments. In terms of tutoring experience, I spent 3 months volunteering for the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative, delivering weekly tutoring sessions to students during school closures. I also spent 2 months working for Engoo, giving one on one conversation lessons to English language learners. I also have tutored both KS3, AQA and Edexcel English GCSE through First Tutors.
My personal approach to tutoring is much the same as that of my teaching philosophy, a careful balance of activating prior knowledge, introducing new content as well as rigorously checking understanding of existing knowledge. Ensuring that students have many opportunities to independently practice this knowledge, and giving thorough personalised feedback and reteaching where necessary.
