I am presently working as an Electrical Engineer presently working in the railway industry and my work requires me to apply electrical Maths, Physics and Electrical Engineering principals every day of my professional life! I am also an advocate of passing on knowledge where possible and therefore have mentored trainee staff as well as tutor students in the above mentioned subjects. Many of my previous students have gone on to achieve either their expected grades or exceeded and therefore hoping that First Tutors will continue to give me that opportunity!
I have been tutoring professionally for the last 6 years now and as mentioned above been teaching Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering principals from GSCE level (across numerous exam boards), A-level (across numerous exam boards) and University undergraduate level.
My approach to tutoring is a very practical one as everybody learns in a different way. My method can be summarised as follows:
First of all engage with the client in order to gauge their level of understanding of the subject/topic and determine where their difficulties are.
Take the client through the basic principles of the topic/subject matter in order to reassure the client as well as enhance their understanding and confidence in resolving problems/parts of difficulties related to that subject area.
Take the student/client through resolving practical problems via textbooks, past question papers etc in order confirm their new found understanding and confidence in studying that subject matter.
Once the tutorial is concluded, I always leave my clients with some "homework" so as to encourage them to continue to enhance their understanding and confidence.
