In 2008 I graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an M.A. Honours (First) in History and International Relations, followed by a Master of Letters in Modern Historical Studies in 2009. I completed my PhD in History at the University in July 2014. In 2016 I completed a PGCert. in Teaching and Learning. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I currently work part-time as an Academic Skills Adviser (Academic Writing) at the University of Aberdeen within the Centre for Academic Development. Here I work with students to develop their academic skills. This includes a wide range of topics covering all aspects of academic writing including critical thinking, reading and writing, grammar and punctuation, and avoiding plagiarism.
I am originally from a small village in the West Coast, so love the countryside and the outdoors in general. I also have a keen interest in sport and in general current affairs.
I have extensive teaching experience from my current post and from being a Tutor at the University of Aberdeen (2010 onwards). The courses I have taught on range from first to third year undergraduates, and involve History, Politics, Sociology and Geography.
I take great satisfaction from helping a student reach their full potential. Focusing on their needs, I aim to encourage the student to take an interest in the subject they are learning. I seek to engage them with the challenges they face, working through any problems, and strive towards building up their knowledge.
I am currently available for online teaching.
