I am a qualified and experienced primary teacher that has worked with children with a range of experiences and abilities. I have worked with children all across the primary age range, from nursery up to year 6. I love to meet children where they are and help them make progress in a positive way. I have worked with children with a range of needs, anxiety and school refusal and can always adapt my teaching to best support these children.
I am experienced and confident in teaching all primary curriculum, particularly maths and English (including early reading and phonics). I am particularly experienced in adapting the my teaching methods to meet the needs of children who may be struggling with traditional teaching methods in school.
I am patient, understanding and positive. I think children work best in a setting where they know that their efforts are appreciated and worthwhile. It is important to empower children to have high expectations of themselves and to know that I will be there to help them reach this. I aim to ensure that my students feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of each session! It’s not easy to lay out a typical lesson as I aim to always make sure they are so personalised to each child. Typically I would spend time identifying any misconceptions or difficulties a child was having, plan a shared activity to work together to address this, before allowing time for the child to practise this knowledge independently. I find that this allows children to build on their self confidence which is always a wonderful thing!
