Hello, I'm Chloe, a first-class graduate from Keele University, where I studied both English and Psychology. Over the past year, I have accumulated invaluable tutoring experience, working with students of various ages and academic levels. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my students grow in both knowledge and confidence. My dual background in English and Psychology not only gives me a strong grasp of these subjects, but also allows me to employ psychological principles to enhance my teaching methods and better understand my students' learning processes.
I am DBS checked, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for your child. I am also adaptable to both online and in-person tutoring sessions, providing flexibility to meet your family's needs.
As a tutor, I have the privilege of working with many students of varying academic abilities and strengths. When students struggle in a specific area, such as having attention deficits, I carefully curate the lessons to suit their needs. Some ways that I accomplish this is by presenting learning visually, working on more difficult areas first, and breaking the lesson up into smaller tasks. Other students lack confidence in their abilities, and this affects their willingness to put effort in. In these circumstances, I work extensively to develop their belief in their capabilities. Whatever the student's needs, rest assured that the teaching will be adapted accordingly.
My Psychology degree equipped me in regard to my teaching approach because I was exposed to the vast array of learning styles; on this basis, I present new students with a questionnaire to determine their personal learning style. This information is then used to formulate the way information is presented. Psychology has also emphasized the critical role that self-perception plays in our behaviour: therefore, I build student's confidence and help to eradicate any negative labels or beliefs they have assigned themselves.
As a tutor, I understand that many students can be shy and reserved: with this in mind, students are asked in the initial questionnaire how comfortable they feel to participate through the reading of extracts, or the answering of questions. Student's comfort is of the utmost importance in my sessions, and will always be prioritised.
