I have been teaching for 30 years, predominantly at the upper end of Key Stage 2, but with experience across the whole of the Primary range. I have spent many years as a senior leader in both good and outstanding schools, including roles as Deputy Headteacher, Head of School and Acting Headteacher. I have just completed a very successful period in Y6, reaching challenging targets in both attainment and achievement with my classes and am currently teaching part-time at a special school for children who are unable to attend school due to long-term illness. I keep up to date with current research trends in education and continue to have much success implementing new strategies when teaching.
Children enjoy learning and progress more rapidly when they receive plenty of encouragement and praise for their hard work. Learning should be enjoyable - challenges reached through stepped, attainable goals - resulting in lots of successes that can be celebrated. I believe that children can reach high standards through a thorough grounding in both problem-solving strategies and fluent procedures which can then be developed and nurtured through creativity and imagination.
