I am an experienced musician and have not only performed violin and piano but also directed choirs and orchestras. I have been teaching privately for fifteen years. I give all my pupils the opportunity to play in informal concerts twice a year as I think the ultimate goal of music is to bring people together.
I have taught violin and piano up to and beyond Grade 8, and I also teach viola, music theory and singing (for fun). I have had pupils of all ages, from 5 to 75, and I love the variety of people that come through my door.
My teaching approach is very flexible and pupil centred. My aim is to make each lesson enjoyable and fulfilling while inspiring (and occasionally cajoling!) pupils to practise between lessons. I want all my pupils to feel fulfilled whatever their ability, and try to discover their strengths, likes and dislikes so that they can go as far as possible on their musical journey. I improvise with most of my pupils, especially pianists, and use percussion instruments (djembe drums etc), note cards, pebbles and other resources with little ones to make their lessons as interesting and varied as possible. I am also able to stretch advanced students as I have a secure grasp of musical language and violin and piano technique.
