Hi! I am Courtney,
a dedicated and patient tutor with over 3 years of experience, I specialise in providing personalised educational support for home educated children. I understand that each child has a unique learning style and pace, and my goal is to foster a nurturing environment where they can thrive academically and personally.
During my own schooling as a teenager and young adult I homeschooled, which allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the education system and I feel I have a unique outlook and teaching style because of this experience.
Being home-educated also provided me with invaluable insight into the challenges faced by children in mainstream education who require additional support to thrive. Having experienced this firsthand, I am passionate about offering the kind of tailored support that I personally needed during my own schooling, with the aim of helping students find joy and fulfilment in their education.
I have been running my own tutoring company since mid-2022, during which time I have delivered thousands of lessons across a wide range of subjects. I am proud to have supported numerous students in achieving excellent exam results while also helping to build their confidence and academic resilience.
In addition to my tutoring work, I have gained extensive experience working in various schools across Doncaster, primarily in one-to-one SEN support roles. This experience has allowed me to further refine my teaching techniques and adapt my approach to meet the diverse needs of individual students. I have worked with a variety of additional learning needs, including ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia, and am skilled at tailoring my methods to support students with differing educational requirements.
My approach is centred around adapting to the individual needs of each student, whether they require assistance in core subjects such as English, Maths, Science, or are in need of enrichment in areas such as creative writing or history. I aim to make learning both engaging and challenging, helping children build confidence, critical thinking skills, and a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
Effective exam preparation goes beyond simply revising content—it’s equally important to master the technique of answering questions in a way that maximises marks. For this reason, I place a strong emphasis on practising past exam questions, ensuring that students are familiar with the format and types of questions they will encounter. In addition, I review mark schemes and model solutions, providing clear guidance on how to achieve the highest possible scores.
A common challenge I encounter with students is uncertainty around how to revise effectively. To address this, I work with each student to explore a variety of revision strategies, helping them discover the most effective techniques tailored to their learning style. This personalised approach has contributed to the success of all my students, with each of them passing their exams following our sessions.
If you would like further information about the services I offer, please feel free to contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Courtney
