I’m an enthusiastic and passionate chemistry teacher at an OFSTED outstanding school in South West London, where I have the privilege of serving as the Head of Science. My approach to learning is vibrant and engaging, as I strive to ignite curiosity and foster a love for science in students of all ages. I believe that chemistry is not just a subject but a key to understanding the world around us, and I love making it accessible interactive discussions.
I hold a Master’s degree from Queen’s University, which further deepened my understanding of the subject and equipped me with innovative teaching techniques. Having attended one of the top grammar schools in Northern Ireland, I know firsthand the value of quality education and the impact it can have on students. I also obtained my PGCE with QTS from Newcastle University, where I honed my skills in classroom management and curriculum development.
I’m dedicated to nurturing the next generation of scientists and critical thinkers, and I work tirelessly to ensure that every student feels empowered to succeed.
I am currently a Head of Science whose department obtains grades well above the national average. The number of students obtaining top grades over the years has remained high. I have been a tutor for 8 years in addition to my school based role and have marked GCSE and A-level each year. This experience helps pinpoint key areas of development in exam technique and knowledge, which aids the support that I can provide for your child. In addition to teaching, I am a sixth form tutor so I work closely with students who are looking to make the KS5 to higher education jump - supporting them with UCAS.
Learning should be made to match the needs of the individual. I believe in addressing the foundations of the subject ensuring that the student can recall and understand these before building on that prior learning. I am comfortable using a range of approaches to help build knowledge and make the sessions personal. I supplement the learning of the content with exam papers, including subject specific material that is accessible by teachers only. Working closely with the exam boards over the years, has aided the development in writing bespoke questions that will aid the application of learned content ensuring students are able to access skills to reach the top grades.
