Private English and Law Tutor in Durham

I am a bubbly, personable and honest tutor. I love to teach others and will take the time to adjust my resources accordingly to each student. I have prior experience working with both introverted and extroverted students, making all my pupils comfortable and happy.

Tutoring Experience

Private and Volunteer tutor with two years experience. I have taught both KS3 & KS4 supporting students through their English Literature, Language and Religious Studies GCSEs.

I have specific expertise in helping students below the GCSE pass mark (Grade 4) reach a pass or above in their studies. Through working with the students, I integrate strategies to help improve both their memory and concentration to help them sit through an exam.

However, I have a breadth of resources for students aiming for the highest marks of 8 or 9's. On average it takes a student four/five lessons to climb a grade in school. This is achieved through exposing high achieving students to content which is not often taught in schools. For students looking to student Literature at A-Level I will additionally begin to teach them basic A-Level concepts.

I have experience tutoring A-Level AQA English Literature and Religious Studies. Though I can provide additional support to college or sixth form students who are currently completing UCAS or apprenticeship applications. My specific expertise is in the Tragic and Crime Genre of Literature. Texts include: Othello, Death of a Salesman & Keats' Poetry.

Further support can be provided to A-Level students completing English Literature coursework or an EPQ.

I have additionally received three job offers from Top 100 Graduate Employers. This way I can help guide application processes for those students interested in pursuing law, banking or finance.

Tutoring Approach

I provide a free 30 minute initial consultation. Throughout the 30 minutes we will go through what concerns the student has. After this, I can draw up a relevant teaching plan to ensure that we are confident moving forward. It also gives the student a chance to see if they are happy with me as a tutor, and gauge if we get along !

Each of my lessons will come with a dedicated 45-60 minute lesson plan, which I will run through. I will not cut the lesson off at 60 minutes if the plan isn't finished. This extra time will be free of charge. After each lesson I will provide homework for the student, which I will mark and return within 3-5 days of receiving it. This provides a unique opportunity for a student to receive regular feedback.
