Qualified in 1969 after a 4 year teacher training course.
Joined Army 1969.....Royal Army Educational Corps.
Taught soldiers aged 16 to 40.
Left Army in 1979.
Re employed by the Ministry of Defence as a Burnham Lecturer teaching young soldiers aged 16 to 18.
Made redundant in 2004.
Worked as a professional musician ( Singer/ guitarist) up to March 2020.
Ceased doing this due to the advent of Covid.
Back to teaching working for Academics Teaching Agency as a supply teacher in local schools.
I also did some private tuition for them mainly with students with learning difficulties.

Tutoring Approach

I prefer face to face teaching.
I start with a meeting with parents to hear what they want me to achieve with their child.
I then like to talk to the student to determine how keen/ motivated they are to learn.
I then ask the student to do a short writing exercise so that I can determine the level already achieved.
I am looking for legible writing, spelling ,punctuation, grammar and ideas.
I also want to see any work done at school.
Now a programme needs to be prepared to achieve the required aims eg passing GCSE
Times/ days/ dates are agreed......and off we go!!
